President-elect Donald Trump Welcomed to the White House by Outgoing President Joe Biden



In a traditional transition meeting at the White House, President-elect Donald Trump was welcomed by outgoing President Joe Biden. The meeting between the two took place in the Oval Office on Wednesday, marking a significant step in the presidential transition process.

This encounter follows a heated election campaign where Joe Biden, initially a candidate, dropped out over the summer after a challenging debate against Trump. Kamala Harris, Biden’s vice president and successor as the Democratic candidate, lost to Trump in the November 5 election by a decisive margin.

Before the press, the two leaders exchanged a handshake, symbolizing a peaceful transition. Biden expressed his commitment to ensuring a smooth transition: “I look forward to having a smooth transition and doing everything we can to make sure you are accommodated. Welcome back.”

Trump echoed Biden's sentiment, emphasizing the importance of a seamless transition: “Politics is tough, and in many cases, it’s not a very nice world. It is a nice world today and I appreciate very much a transition that’s so smooth; it will be as smooth as it can get.”

Following the meeting, which took place nearly two months before Trump’s inauguration on January 20, Trump shared details about their discussions. He mentioned that Biden offered his views on Ukraine and the Middle East, topics of significant interest.

“I wanted – I asked for his views and he gave them to me,” Trump told the New York Post. “We also talked extensively about the Middle East. He was very gracious and shared his insights.”

Trump noted the positive atmosphere of their interaction and praised Biden for his efforts during the campaign: “We both really enjoyed seeing each other. Biden did a very good job with respect to campaigning.”

This meeting between Biden and Trump marks a dramatic change from four years ago when Biden defeated Trump in the 2020 presidential election. At that time, Trump disputed the election results and declined to host a transition meeting or attend Biden’s inauguration.

The handshake and cordial discussions between the two leaders now set a hopeful tone for the upcoming administration and the future of American politics.
